Birth of A Bully

Our children are indeed our future. This isn't just a saying, its truth. So why it that it seems our children are often overlooked for more pressing world matters? A large issue in today's society is the rise of bullying. No longer relegated to simple schoolyard altercations or stolen lunch money, the methods in which it can happen have grown in our technological age. This makes it so much harder to monitor. But that doesn’t mean it’s still not a very real issue that needs to be addressed and paid attention to. While I still have her home with me, I constantly worry about how my own child will acclimate to a new environment when she starts school. Will she make friends easily? Will she be liked? Will she be teased? I even made changes to myself to try and prevent her from being teased in the way that I was in my youth. Still, it’s a constant and persistent thought that I think on almost daily. But what happens when a child's pleas and cries for help are ignored? How does a child defend themselves when it seems the ones they are taught to trust to protect them simply don’t?

Here is a short film from Jerylmayne White aka Michael Cassio, that he is submitting for his NYU Film School Application, that touches on this VERY issue. Please, give this a watch. Pay attention to it. Let the message resonate. Share this to get the word out.

Mere words can't adequately express how powerful a message was relayed here. At any one point all it would have taken was a single listening ear, and everything would have been different. So while we, as adults are absorbed in our everyday stresses of paying bills and surviving the grind. Remember our youth are facing this world, with much less experience than we have. It's big and it’s scary. They are facing much more than we ever did, and it’s our duty to prevent these things from shaping our children into the very monsters they are afraid of.

It’s up to us to STOP BULLYING. It’s up to us to BREAK THE CYCLE.
