I played the first Nier, and I thorougly enjoyed the game. The twisted and dark story was definitely meant for mature audiences. And while the action was competent, it was not the strong portion of the game. This was produced by Cavia, who's claim in the action game genre were the Drakengard games, which were good but not great as far as action goes.
I am a HUGE fan of Platinum games, who's pedigree in building the best action titles needs no confirmation. This is the company that brought us Bayonetta, Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Solid RE:vengeance, and Vanquish. Their trademark stylish action is oft imitated but never duplicated.
So when it was announced that Platinum would be taking the helm for Nier, I was more than intrigued to see what this would produce. Unveiled at last year's Paris Games Week, we got a glimpse of the world, and we were given a title, but now at E3 we have been given the gift of seeing the game in action. And it is without a doubt, Platinum at its finest.
